Warm oak cabinetry and considered details in a thoughtfully renovated Islington townhouse
Set within a townhouse near Highbury Fields, this kitchen forms part of a full home refurbishment by architecture and design studio AB.Co.
Previously a rental property, the house has been reimagined as a contemporary family home, with natural materials and practical spaces for everyday life. Views through the ground floor towards the rear garden open up the interior, while an off-white backdrop allows the warmth of the oak joinery to carry through the scheme. At the heart of the plan, the kitchen combines cooking with coat and shoe storage and space to display personal objects. Bespoke shelving between the snug and kitchen, designed by AB.Co using oak panels supplied by HUSK, adds personality and connects the two spaces.
We approached it as if it was a bespoke piece of furniture!
Considered details
Following our Essential pathway, the clients paired Howdens cabinets with our Natural Oak Timber Veneer fronts on Ply to achieve the bespoke feel AB.Co envisaged. Integrated Scallop Handles are precision cut into the fronts, revealing the layered ply beneath and keeping the oak surfaces free from additional hardware. Howdens’ 20mm Quartz Iconic White worktops and Claybrook’s Katakana Small Matt tiles balance the warmth of the timber with a lighter palette.
A generous new rooflight brings daylight onto the work surface and highlights the tiled splashback, while FRAMA’s Eiffel Pendant Light completes the scheme. Brought together by builders and fitters High Cove, the kitchen reflects AB.Co’s affinity for British and Scandinavian design: simple, tactile and carefully considered for family life.
The lasting impression is that it is crafted with care, at an accessible budget.
